They are a mutt and best to be left in a truck. Its got 2v cleveland heads on it and uses a big block bell housing so your stuck to a c6 or toploader only.I would pass for a windsor or cleveland or a real big block over it.

It gets very little respect. The M requires the motor mounts and bellhousing of the 385 series (429/460).
There was never a performance version of this engine. You'd have adapt and modify your brains out to get a so-so engine into the car.
The 351W, introduced in the 1969 Mustang, is still in production from Ford Racing. They are also findable used, having been about 25 years of Ford vehicles.

Even a stone-stock 460 would be major power in a Mustang. There are special headers and motor mounts commercially available for this conversion.

I wouldn't do it either BUT, the winner of the Engine Masters challenge last year was a 351M's bigger brother 400M built by Jon Kaase racing. Made 698 horsepower and 619 ft/lbs torque at very low rpm but it had a pile of aftermarket and custom parts thrown at it to do it.
