My first post on this forum . . and likely the first of many . . .
I have recently purchased a 69 mach 1 that has been largely restored but remains in need of some finishing touches. One of them is the application the factory stripes. Can anyone provide me with the correct mounting location of these stripes – i.e the distance from either the lower or upper body lines, or even the lower door seam?
With the side stripes it seems easy enough to just start at the rear side marker light and run a straight line that would run parallel with the upper and lower body lines, but I have seen many examples where this is achieved yet the stripes are at varying heights on the vehicle. The deviations from the correct factory locations invariably look terrible.
Also, the stripes themselves stop short of the wheel wells and body panel edges / seams. I’d like to know if there is a standard distance that was maintained.
Many thanks in advance for any help!
Kindest regards,
Tony

I believe the method you mentioned is the only way I know of. Just keep it straight and it should look good. I just had my body shop put mine on after paint, they did a "B" job, on the doors it dips slightly. Not really noticeable unless you look at it from the right angle. So just keep it deal straight and it should be good.
Maybe you could use painters tape to line up the bottom and ensure a straight like before you put it on.
4reboy, many thanks for your reply and suggestions.
I am quite confident I could get it close enough by eyeballing it, and painter’s tape will definitely be part of the process. But I am in no hurry and thought that throwing out this question to the experts would be a prudent step. I am willing to wait just to be absolutely certain it gets done right the first time. And it’s never been unwise to do a little research before running ahead with anything.
I was hoping to post an attachment illustrating the info I am after. But for some reason I am unable to post attachments. In the “Posting Rules” box at the bottom left of my screen it states that I “may not post attachments” Do you know how I go about changing this?
You can't post attachments because I believe your post count is too low, I believe its to help stop spammers. Make an account at photobucket . com, upload your pictures and the copy and paste the [IMG] tag here. Then the pics should show up...
Another suggestion I have is checking out the forum on 1969stang.com, they are 69 mustang specific so there might be more experts on there that would know more information about the 69 specific stripe locations...
