I just found out about the cammer motor recently, and was amazed at its numbers and was instantly saying i want one. I had a thought that they would be rare and i guess i was right, ha. I had a 1969 charger 383/727 that i rebuilt but my parents needed the money and so they sold it. So im now looking at 67 mustang or 69 camaro or another 69 charger. Thanks for your help guys.

Why a cammer its old big heavy and pricey as hell.I can make more power out of a small block and on pump gas.If you want a coupe they are cheap 3k up a fastback will be 8k up.But to use a cammer will mean you gotta cut the shock towers out weld in a mustang 2 kit the car will have no use but as a drag car.
More power than a 427 SOHC out of a small block? I'd like to see that, without using an aftermarket block. Those motors put out a good 700hp when tuned properly.
Not saying a cammer is by any means a feasible project for a car that's going to do anything but go down the quarter, but it's still a monster motor and not easily rivaled.

I can probably get ya one if you really wanted. But these motors were raced VERY hard and have lots of repairs done to them. At about 5k for a set needing repair, they are pricey. They still have cast iron seat because most places won;t cut for new seats for fear of cracking the head where it's already been welded once.
I don't think so. The big block will get you out of the hole, the only way the small block has a chance is in the top end when the BB winds out.

Considering the 427SOHC 'winds out' north of 7200RPM when completely unmodified, I'm not sure anything short of the most insane small block builds would have that opportunity.
Dream on if anyone thinks they can build a small block to meet anywhere new the potential of a cammer. If anyone thinks they can find one for $15K, dream again.
Here is a 70 Mach 1 restored with a cammer. Check out the video. About 8:15 or so he starts this bad boy.
Jon kaase 403 cleveland that won the engine master in 08 was 660hp 625 foot pounds on pump gas.His boss 436 made 746hp 646 foot pounds.I'm shocked no one said about the timing chain on the cammer got longer the harder it was drove. Most swapped to the timing belt.
