Default Finish restoration or sell as is

My late husband has a 69 mustang mach 1 428 cobrajet. It' in the middle of a restoration....Should I finish the restoration - at a cost of about 35K and try to sell ( already have 15K into it) - or sell it as is for 25K...??? Thoughts

I recommend selling it. It is very hard to get your money back out of a build.

69 428cj's can go for a lot if done right, but as JamesW said its hard to get money back out of a build, especially one for a 428cj (if you go at least mostly period correct).

If you are planning to sell it after the restoration is complete, I would probably just sell it now anyway since you aren't interested in it. But if you plan to hold onto it then do that, they are nice cars and a good investment in the longer run.

But if you are selling it to me, Private Message me some pics, I may know someone who would be interested.

They are right. Not only the costs but also the headaches of a resto. It is never as straightforward as you plan.
My condolences on the loss of your husband. Be assured they are people out there who will want that car as much as he did. It will find a good home.

First of all, my condolences on your loss. If the car is something you would like to hang onto in rememberance of him, then I say finish it. If it's something that causes you to hurt because of your loss everytime you look at it, then I would sell it just for sanity. If you do decide to sell it, at least find someone that will take care of the car and not give it to some kid that is going to trash it. That could cause you to hurt all over again. $10K profit on an unfinished project does make it a pretty good investment, though.

First off...so very sorry to hear about your loss.

As to the car, if you have 15k into it but could sell it for 25k I would sell it unless you want to keep it.

I don't think you could get the money back out of it if you were to finish it. It is a head ache some days to get these things done and will take some time. Why not sell it now for a "fast" 10K if you don't want to keep the car.

Plus, things often don't go smooth and there are always costs that come up that you didn't plan on. I can write the book on that one the last couple of weeks in just trying to replace my motor. Started out with a budget that left me a couple of hundred of cushion in my pocket but things keep coming up and now I'll be spending an extra $300 - $400 I didn't plan on when I started to get her back on the road. Long story but it happens.

Not to mention you can probably find someone that prefers the car unfinished so they can build it the way they want.

You have plenty of Mustangs already.
And this is a really great smiley to use when posting a message about you. Didn't even have to make it. It was already in stock.

A rare car like that you won't sell over night so be ready for months to pass.
