Default Electronic Ignition

I was looking at upgrading my 71 mustang with a 302 I found two that I liked one from Petronix igniter II I think I'm going to get and there was another one from crane that looked good. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or if they use either and if there was any other parts that you might recommend. I know I have to give it a tune up as well so I was wondering if anyone had any preference on distributor cap, wires, plugs and such. Thanks

I can't say much about either, except for what I have read here on the forum, if memory serves me, it seems as if the original petronix seems to be MORE RELIABLE than the Petronix II.

We did the Pertronix II with the Flamethrower II coil and love it. It made a big difference in how the engine fires off and runs. The Pert II has the brains to keep itself from burning up if the key is left on without the engine running. I don't know anything about the Crane. Everything I've seen says the II is more reliable than the original.

The install is every bit easy as the instructions make it sound. Make sure you either remove or bypass the pink resistor wire to the coil so you get the full voltage. You'll also need to re-time the engine when you're done.

We didn't change out the distributor cap, but did switch to low ohm plug wires, and opened up the gap on the plugs a little to take advatage of the increased fire at the plugs.

I installed Pertronix 2 years ago and it is a great upgrade. Timing is never an issue anymore. I totally recommend this upgrade.

Put 'Pertronix" in the search engine here. There's a couple of threads on this with some testimolnials and reviews. Good luck.
