Default Noisy 66 200ci

Hi Guys,

My 66 200 makes what appears to be value or lifter noise at higher RPMs. I adjusted the rocker arm per specs but noise is still there. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Tom

Could be the valves floating a little because of weak valve springs or the lifters bleeding off a little. Do you notice a power drop at the same time the noise occurs?

Yeah, the noise gets louder at higher RPMs and the power drops. I did replace the lifters recently so maybe I should test/replace the springs?

Thanks,

Tom

Default Noisy 6cly

I'm back at it. I bought new springs and when I took off the old ones I found out that the old spings were taller than the new ones but the new ones are the right size per specs. How will shorter springs effect the performance/noise?

Thanks,

Tom

It's not necessarily the spring length, but the spring rate and how fast the spring responds to change. Put 'em in, set the pre-load on the lifters properly and see what happens.
