car shuts off in drive or reverse
I recently rewired a few melted wires due to splicing and crap like that. For years If there was power coming out I would use it. Anyway following a wiring diagram I began to replace the old keeping the same factory color. I'm pretty budget minded and can't afford a fancy expensive wiring harness. Back to my story, I began to notice that my engine would start up just fine w a little rough idle due to timing. When I put the car in gear it shuts off without a stumble. I'm going crazy with this any suggestions or ideas???? Has this ever happened to any of you??

If you're messing with wiring I'd suspect the neutral safety switch is bad or you have crossed some of the wires, check your wiring diagram. I take it that this is an auto? It would help if you put your car desc. in your signature - engine/trans/PS/PB?, etc.
Otherwise I'd look at how low your idle is in neutral, now that you've changed the timing the idle may be too low. Next step would be to check ALL the vacuum lines, don't forget the one's at both ends of the trans. vacuum steel line (back of intake and at trans. modulator).
