5.0 install options?

5.0 install options?
I have got a '95 5.0 GT motor with GT40P heads that I will put in our '65 it will be carbed, electronic ignition, with a C4 behind it.
What do I need to install this as far as flex plate, starter mount plate, harmonic balancer, pulleys, etc.?
The motor will only have a alternator and no other accessories on it and I'm not going to get too excited if the pulley belt set up doesn't look original.
I have heard you need a special weight harmonic balancer and flex plate to match, but I thought that was only needed if you wanted to keep the original look of the pulley set up for it to all work and look right.
So what are my real options, needs here?
Thanks,
Lynn

You'll have to change the oil pan and the pickup most likely. Water pump lower may on the driver's side and the pump may rotate opposite of the older 302's. Fuel pump? Either electric with a regulator or change over to mechanical.
There are some other things that need to be changed too like relocating the dipstick or use an old timing cover, distributor with the proper gear for the cam.
If you already know that, sorry for repeating it.

I would think it would fit just fine, 289 and 302 are the same dimensions... if you don't care that it doesn't look like a classic it should be a pretty straight forward drop in.... especially if the car came with a 289... I could be mistaken but I put a 351 in a 66 that had a 6cyl...

What scootchu said, plus the later 5.0 had a different balance than the early 289/302 so you MUST use the flex plate and balancer for the 5.0. Its not how it looks, its the amount of weight that is offset in the parts that balance out the weight of the crank and rods. You have either 28oz or 50oz and you cant interchange them and not have problems. The converter should bolt up to a 5.0 flex plate, and you can mount whatever pulley you need on the balancer provided it has the right number of holes in it. There are short belt kits and other ways to run the serpentine drive without power steering and AC.
The stock roller cams have a cast iron gear so a regular distributor gear will work, the aftermarket cams usually have a gear made from the same steel the cam is made of, so it will eat an iron distributor gear. With an aftermarket roller cam you need a brass gear or a phenolic gear so it wont tear up the cam. The brass gears need to be replaced every so often, depending on how much spring pressure you are running and how often the car is driven or raced. If you dont change the cam then all you need is the gear from the distributor you pulled out to switch to one not computer controlled. It should be iron and pressed on with a roll pin keeping it on the shaft.

So I would just have to figure out what weight my HB is and get the same weight flex plat to match then, correct? I thought you had to have a certain tooth # also for the flex plate to fit a C4 as well.
Thanks for the input guys!

I have thought about this before and it starts to hurt my head, so I stop thinking.
