Default Heater Fan Boost?

Hi All, I'm looking to give my heater a little oomph. My car's a '65 vert, with a 3-speed blower, but even on high, the defroster's just not pushing out enough air to do much.

Has anyone solved this problem? Any aftermarket blowers out there that can do the job better?

I'm of the same opinion. I have a new one and it could definitely stand to more a little more air.

I went through the heaters in my mustangs several years ago.
They put out a lot of heat; defrost works good once warmed up.
Not on the same level as modern bells and whistles car.
After several years the defrost flex ducts can get leaky.

Recommended heater system tasks:

New blower.
New defrost flex hoses.
New T-Stat (195F min).
New heater core.
Only distilled water and antifreeze in system.
Replace foam in air flow control box.
Adjust temp, heat, def control cables.
Clean up blower switch terminals.
Clean debris from cowl.
Install cowl repair kit if it leaks.

My heater system is completely rebuild with all new parts. The air is warm, but the fan deosn't seem to move as much air as I would like when on high.

While driving down the highway with the heat on, there is no need for the fan to be on since so much air comes in.

The classic mustangs have pretty strong heater air flow and not as much def air flow.

My dad's 66 GMC truck was the same. I replaced blower in 66 GMC (from Advance Auto) and it blows like crazy on high. Makes more noise also. I normally run it on low. If you are lucky you might find a higher rpm blower motor.

Smooth wall def duct would improve flow a little.

If you wanna get messy; PC fans come in 12vdc and could be placed in duct to improve air flow.

What T-Stat are you using?

Have you compared ambient temp to heated air temp?

The cowl vent is fresh air for the heater so if you got a cowl cover on it that might be why too. Most older cars and truck suck for heat tell you get moving or the engine gets hot which is 10 mins or longer driving.

Thanks for all the suggestions. My heater's a complete rebuild, but using original parts (i.e. new seals, etc. but didn't buy a new blower). There's no leaks that I can detect -- everything seems to be going to the ducts. I get plenty of heat -- just not enough air movement on defrost (floorboard heat is fine).

I've even got FloFit seats with seat heaters, so I'm not worried about keeping warm -- this is only about being able to defrost the windshield so I can extend my driving season a bit.

I probably will buy a new blower, but rather than buy a stock one, I was wondering if anyone made a better (more powerful) aftermarket one that would fit without too much mess.

If your lucky advanced auto will have blower as strong as the one I bought for 66 gmc.

I drove 65 and 67 mustangs for years through snow and ice. Didn't have def problem due to cold once car warmed up. I remember having def issues during humid rainy days at times.

I agree the only real issue I have is with the defroster. Since it doesn't use the AC like newer cars, it doens't defog much escept 2 small angle patches on the windshield.

I run a 180 T stat. I have been contemplating to back to a 190 T stat. I think the Motorcraft one is actually 192 or 195.

Very smart to use 195F T stat. Your engine will thank you.
