Good looking mock up! I like the design with 2 windows and 2 pairs of gloves for longer objects to blast.

I have briefly tried to think of a reason why wood wont work, can't come up with one.

So long as you think it through, wood should work fine imo.

I am thinking a good 5/8" for the top and maybe 3/4" for the storage area, assembled with some construction adhesive as well as mechanical means?

Nice looking mock up indeed! Looks like you have a pretty good work area, love the natural light!

didn't read too many of the comments but my dad has that harbor freight one and it works just fine. As long as you have a good compressor and good media it will do all you ever need it to. We've had no leaks or problems with the unit itself, it does what a metal box should do, keep the sand in. We also have a Hepa vacuum on it which helps a lot, so if you are building one yourself I would recommend including something like that

Agreed. Most people don't care but I love having sunlight where I'm working, especially now that it's getting colder.

I do like the idea of wood because of simplicity to build, but how durable do you guys think it will be? I realize you wont be hitting it directly with sand or media all the time but for some reason I see the wood getting ate up quickly vs. metal.

Maybe I am thinking too much about this but I would hate to spend all this time on a blast cabinet and after a month of use it look like swiss cheese.

Could always cut up some old truck inner tubes and contact cement them to the inside. This would project the wood and it would probably last forever.

i made my own as well about 17 years ago with a kit from TP tools. i think i used 16 awg steel. it is a TANK for sure.

i don't know how people do this stuff without some sort of media blaster.

well i tryed the HF blaster and i don't like it, just doesn't work for me. so i went to home depot and bought some 4X8 3/4" white faced sheets and going to build one i guess! i really wanted a steel one but what the heck, as long as it works good right.. i bought a foot petal kit so here we go! its going to be big! working space between 6-7ft wide,36" high and 40" deep with the 2 windows and 2 pr's gloves... so a hood will fit inside! i went to a sandblast cabinet shop thurs and this one that i'm building is a middle size from what these guys build! and starting price for a small one 1395. all the way to 20,000 i will keep my old eastwood blaster for glassbeeds only for the smaller parts....hope this work good ????
