Thinking about getting a Mach 1
#22
Hey man, as a recent owner of a 72 I will add my $.02...
1. Parts are a pain in the neck to find for 71-73. You'll have to find a Mustang salvage yard or find someone with a donor car if you expect to find replacement parts in a timely manner. Personally, I have a had a TERRIBLE time finding replacement plastic trim parts for this car because that old ABS plastic pretty much crumbles to the touch anymore and I don't know if anyone's remaking it right now.
2. As a previous poster stated, the visibility out of the rear window is terrible and the side rear views are about as big as a credit card each so you'll have to use the force when backing up.
Now the benefits:
1. The 71-73 body styles are gaining popularity so in a few years you'll probably start to see more parts on the market.
2. Its far more afforable tan a 69 or 70 so you don't feel like you're driving a piece of fine China everywhere you go. Muscle cars aren't much fun if you can't drive it like one.
3. Chicks respect old muscle. It's kinda like when they see Sean Connery. They know its old merchandise but it still sends a tingle up... well you know. I've had plenty of soccer moms in the area stop and talk to me about my Mach.
Basically what I am saying is the 71-73 are a bit more of a pain to restore bute if that's the style you want, then don't let anyone else tell you not to go for it.
Furthermore, a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, not what some little blue book says it is. If you want this car, and want to keep it around for a while then price shouldn't have much to do with your decision. I always wanted a black 71-73 body style and yeah I prob overpaid a grand or two, but I'm happy because its what I wanted.
Trust your gut and your heart bro.
