Default help with my modern drivetrain

I have a 68 mustang with a 302 from a fox body and a T5 transmission. I recently bolted up the bellhousing and transmission and found some problems with the fit. the transmission hits the bottom of the floorpan and looks to be just a bit forward for the shifter lever hole in the floor. I ordered the correct crossmember for it and it should be here on Tuesday but my whole engine leans back slightly because the transmission is hitting the floor and won't lift up anymore. I looked into the adapter plate to bring the whole thing back slightly but I am using a T5 bellhousing and everywhere I looked it says that adapter kit is only if you are using an old bellhousing to make up for the lack of thickness in it. I really don't want to start hacking up my floor. Has anyone ever had or heard of this problem before? I was looking into changing my motor mounts to lower the engine so it would level out the transmission but I don't know if that is a smart move either.

I have heard that sometimes on 67-68, the hole in the floor has to be trimmed some. I didn't have to on my 65. I think 65-66 don't require it. These links may help you some.

By the way, your engine is supposed to sit slightly angle down in the rear. Using the T5 crossmember actually drops the rear of the engine a bit more.

See here about the shifter opening in the floor.
