Interior Lights
I just added the LED lights behind the gauges. The turn signals work. The high beam indicator works. The lights behing the gauges don't work. I am wondering if its typical for the light switch to be the problem. 71 Mach 1
Any advice?

All of the stock dash lights are on the same circuit if I remember correctly. Do those LEDs light up if you give power to them via a jumper? If not, the ground is probably compromised.
That said, early Mustang headlight switches are notorious for failing. I put in three over two years before completely changing how the headlight circuit works.
I'd bet on the bad ground though.

I don't have the schematics for a 71, but the under dash harness should have its own ground. On my 65, it is grounded at the mount the windshield wiper motor mounts to. Sorry I can't be specific with your location.
Did the old dash lights work? If they did, perhaps you have a bad connection between the harness and your new lights, or they are defective. Do they require 12v or something less?

Do they work if you hook them up to a 12v source by themselves? Assuming they take 12v, I have no experience with LEDs. At least confirm they work before assuming it is the car at fault. Granted, since the old dash lights did not work, that is probably the issue, but assumptions often lead to wild goose chases. Anyone ever seen someone try to chase a wild goose? My neighbor had a 1955 T-Bird and he assumed it was negative ground. Oops.
Don't forget, you harness is 40 years old, so there could be broken wires in that harness that you will never find. My point is that this might be a good time to think about replacing your harness. If that is not feasible at this time, you might want to just run a new wire to your LEDs.
