Are you talking about changing the guts of your 3spd into a 4spd or swapping transmissions?

With all of the good used T5 out there, why not just go with 5 instead? That 5th gear sure is nice on the highway.

Swap is what I was thinking. How difficult is the swap?

To put a T5 in where a 303 was you will need an adapter for the bellhousing, you may need to modify the crossmember that you have or get one made for the swap, you might need a different yoke, and depending on the length of the transmission you may need to shorten your driveline.
Just as with any swap you may run into problems that others have or have not had to deal with. Taking your time, measure everything and look things over before you start will make the task a lot more manageable.

This is a common swap, with all the parts you need readily available. Therefore, it is not a difficult thing to do. As PaulS pointed out, just make sure you do your homework first. Working on the Classics sure is a lot easier in the Internet Age.

Thanks for all the help, now I am going to go out and do a lot of homework and see if I can pull this off. I will keep everyone updated when it happens.

Now they are talking about a 5 speed w/overdrive. Were you thinking of droping in a 4 speed toploader?
