im fairly new to being under the hood of a car, and this is my first encounter w changing an alternator, its on a 1971 mustang fastback 351c and was wondering, is the any particular type of alternator that would be recommended?

Just take the old one off go to any auto parts store and make sure the new one matches the old one.
