Default How to Identify my rear end

Good eveing ladies and gents,
I am new to the site, and can saw that it is great.
But first of many question is how to identify what type of rear end I have.
The car was originally an 200 cid. 68 Mustang. It now has a 302 which was put correctly. But to me, not much else was done to support the new 302.
It is an automatic, c4, 302 and originally had a 2bbl carb and intake manifold.
Any numbers on the rear end to identify?

Thanks for the help.

Mike

Does it have a tag attached to one of the bolts?
This site can help.

well ill tell you how you can check if its an 8in or 9in. if you can fit a socket on the bottom bolts of the third member, then its an 8 inch. if there is no clearance for a socket then its a 9 inch. take a look here

9 inch ^

8 inch ^

Being a factory 6 it may have the 7.5 rear end. If the back diff cover unbolts it would be the 7.5

take a picture front and back of you can that will tell us if its a 7.25 rear that the 6's used or a 8" that the v8 used from there you can see if there is a id tag on the side of differential

Ill take a picture of it tonight, and upload it. But it is a sealed unit as far as the 3rd member is concerned. The rear opens, but the front is sealed.

Count the lug nuts if there is 4 on each rear wheel its a 7.5 if its 5 lug then its a 8 inch or 9 inch.If your trying to upload the picture to the forum the easiest way i know is sign up to photobucket.com its free upload the picture on there and just copy and paste the img link on the photo.
