Default Looking for opinions

My mechanic has several older mustangs that are really shells.

Since I am doing a modern suspension and drivetrain on my 69 I was thinking of buying one of the shells to put the current drivetrain in. I have a 302 (modified), a automatic overdrive transmission and a 8" rearend with posi.

There are two choices I am contemplating.

1. is a 1969 Mustang convertible that was originally Blackjade with a white top.

2. is a 1965 Fastback. The original color is Dynasty Green. Never seen a fastback in this color. I am leaning towards the fastback.

Like I stated both are rolling shells but I thought I'd ask your opinions.

Fire away on what you guys and gals would do if you had the chance.

I've always preferred the original 65/66 Mustangs. Go for the fastback.

I would pencil it out if you could make more (or lose less) by just selling the motor/trans, than building up a car. Unless he sells you the shells cheap and doesnt charge much per hour, you might find you will be upside down on the project. For the equivalent in fit and finish, the fastback would sell for more.

Will definitely pencil out the project. I wish I could get a Marti Report on the 65. Found out last night that the tag shows two tone deluxe decor pony interior. I will definitely go with the fastback if the numbers work out.

Verts that have sat outside for a long time often have awful rust issues, I would let this help to make my decision.

Just depends how much work both need and what body style you like more.

They both are shells. The fastback has all the metal to replace what little rust there was on it. The convertible needs floors and the rest is there and just surface rust on both. I decided if the numbers work out I will do the fastback since my wife does not like convertibles and I already have a 69 sportroof.

Also my father had a 65 fastback 2+2 with factory air when my twin and I were growing up and I have fond memories of that car.

The rearend on my 69 is an 8" and my current drivetrain will bolt right in. I plan on changing everything in the 69 at some point with modern stuff anyways.

The 8 inch from your 69 is a little wider then you need it will fit but the back wheels will stick out more then the front.
