Well installed new lifters...somehow the new lifter from ford are a tad bit different and the heads had to come off to install them. so new head gaskets, intake gaskets, exhaust gaskets, 7 qts of oil...because i spilt cooloant in the motor taking the intake off. expensive but i think its good to go. set the timing to 14*. kept shocking the hell out of myself setting the timing....whats up with that..all new cables too. Guess I need to ground the motor.

Im still getting quit a bit of chatter from the lifters though. I set them with half turn of preload. could be that my valve covers are just thin aluminum too i guess.

Check to see that around each plug wire that connects to the dizzy that there are no stray wires from the braided cable that are exposed or nearly exposed. Sometimes during assembly one or two strands may peel away from the braided cable and sneak past the insulation.

a possible easy way to locate the voltage leak would be at night or in low light use a spray bottle filled with water on the MIST setting (not stream) and mist around the dizzy after a few sprays from about 6" away you should be able to see the arc from the area of the leak.

Was it the same one as before? Are your stud holes blind?

it was actually the intake one of the same cylinder...previous one was exhaust. both cylinder #8. wonder if somehow I never torqued that cylinder down for some reason.

PS. why did this get moved to general discussion?
