Default 450-500rw from a pushrod NA?

What kind of pushrod displacement would it take to have under or at 10.5:1cr and still make 450-500rwhp through a manual trans? (Pump gas)

I'm having a hell of a time trying to find numbers "that I believe". With an aftermarket block I've been told that 450-500rw reliably from a 427 stroker small block is expensive but very achievable. ($6k for a block I sure hope it would hold) So far all the pushrods I've built over the years have been only up to 400hp so it's been pretty easy and nothing to right home about.

I'm trying to avoid forced induction but I want it to be a daily driver on pump &
450-500rw is golden numbers. I'd consider one of the BBF's but I'm not sure if I want to add the extra weight, or shoe horn a BBF into it. If the $/hp is there I guess it would swoon me.

My 96 2v was so much easier, forge it & add boost. If I wanted more I'd add more fuel and add more boost. I'm lost going back to pushrods.

What is the budget? Shoot, with enough money I've read that a good early casting 351w block with the right parts/mods can handle that sort of power, and a stroker kit certainly would be necessary to get to that power level out of a sbf anyway. To me 450-500hp for a daily driver doesn't make any sense. Unless you're a retiree/racer thereby making your daily drive pretty intense!

Probably something like a 408W setup

My last project DD was 600rw but had a blower on a fully built 4.6 2v. I'm trying to keep the numbers low and reliable for this build.

When I say Daily Driver, I guess I mean, whenever I feel like getting in it and driving. It will have A/C and layers of sound deadener. :0)

Setting a budget on a project is like dating a French girl. Sure it starts out with just a bottle of wine in the park.

Throwing out numbers would be pure guesses. The last engine cost me close to $12k by the time I was done doing and then redoing. I'm hoping to be a little more planned out and "Do it right the first time". The aftermarket SB block alone is near $6k so I know this isn't going to be cheap. (If I go that route.)

If you got 10k+ for a engine http://www.worldcastings.com/product...f-engines.html all of them are 351w based even the 460 on there is a 351w stroked way out.

What kind of miles are you expecting to get out of the motor? A reliable 408w/427w pushing that kind of power for lots of miles will cost a lot to build, and I would imagine it wouldn't be very street friendly. It can be done though...the options/parts/companies are out there. I'm imagining a 427w with h beam rods, forged crank, girdle, nice pistons, BIG cam, ported/port matched alum heads with high CR, vic jr intake or similar, hydraulic roller valvetrain (street engine usually means fewer rpms, so this might eliminate adjustments/maintenance), roller rockers, elec ignition of some sort, long tubes, and a carefully chosen carb or EFI. Just ideas...

If you build a 385 the 429/460 it could see those numbers easy with alum heads and intake will cut the weight back. The question is what is it going in and what trans and rear end you want to use with it?

Mike, you can easly make those numbers with a windsor 408 or 427 stroker with H/C/I. My friend has a 393 windsor making 470rwhp with a set of AFRs, a streetable cam, and intake.
