Pitted chrome: clean vs repo vs NOS???
I've just disassembled my '66 convertible to sand and paint. I'm fixing up this car as a fair weather driver. I won't be showing it or taking it back totally original. Just going to be a fun car to drive.
While I've got all the chrome off, I've got to decide on how to handle putting it back on. A good bit of it is pitted. Some of it I can clean fairly easily but some parts look to be cheaper to replace than the time it would take to clean.
However, there are a few parts that are more expensive to replace.
For example, I have my door vent windows removed from the car. They have some pitting as you can see in the photo.
Since I have it off, do I try to clean this and just replace the weather stripping and the window handle (Handle is in bad shape) and put it back in as is or do I buy a replacement part?
I can get a replacement frame for about $129 or a complete assembly replacement for $279.
Also, my outside door handles are in bad shape. They are replacement handles that I put on about 12 years ago and have gotten very pitted. For the price, I'm just going to replace them. I can get a replacement set for $30 or a concourse quality replacement set for $60. What's the difference?
Thanks for any input,
Dennis
