Default Building a 351C

I am saving cash to do a rebuild of my 351C. I was wondering who else out there has built some serious muscle out of one of these. I am looking at 393 or 408 stroker kits, along with aluminum heads, ect... I am hoping for a 500 hp engine, so again what is the general advice out there from those of you on the forum.

How fast do you want it to go?

You can be in the low 11s with a 410c with essentially stock 4v heads (screw in studs, new valves, clean up the bowls and exhaust ports. I even do it with the 4v open heads that people don't like

I'm in the middle of my 428pi block build and I am trying to keep it below 500hp for fear of ripping my car apart or something. But yea, like Dodgestang said, what do you want to do with it? Weekend cruiser, racer, fulltime race car or daily driver. I'm going for daily driver myself, I went with some nice forged pistons from speed pro, Durabond bearings and a pair Edlebrock aluminum heads. I was looking for durability in lue of power but with a big block you kinda just get power even with a stock set up...like Dodgestang said.

I don't use the car for daily driving as it is...So I want a street rod I guess is my goal. I may drive it for a few cruise nights and take it to the track from time to time.

I don't want a new Camaro SS to pull up next to me and kick my ***, I want to be able to hold my own against these newer muscle cars.

I considered getting a current 5.0 crate motor along with the 6 speed and supercharging it and setting it into the old car. But the old Cleveland is just to cool for me to pull it out.

I am planning on putting a new "race" suspension under the car to handle the hp increase.

Sounds about where I am at with mine.

I built mine to drive anywhere, drag race for fun, and be able to open track. Then I ended up putting a huge motor in it.

I run an all forged 410C in a .040 block (diamond pistons, h beam rods, scat crank) with a custom ed curtis cam (flotech), 4v open heads with studs, 1.73 crane roller, valves, ported exhaust, polished bowls, 10.5:1 compression, strip dominator intake, bigs 750 carb, msd billet dizzy and 6a box, long tube headers from Fordpowertrain, 3 inch pipes into flowmaster 40s with dumps in front of axle, high volume oil pump, 7 quart pan and a windage tray. Red line is at 7500 but I have found faster 1/4 times shifting it at 6500 (most likely because of all the toque I make at 2500 . Put down 400 RWHP through an AOD with a 3k stall and a 9 inch. As for the chassis I put on sub-frame bars

At the strip it has run a best of 11.4 at 118.8. It was running 11.7s on leafs with a watts plus simply under rider bars and then I put in an exotic 3 link setup which softened my ride and improved my handling and got me into the low 11s. I also put in boxed upper arms with relocated ball joint, arning (shelby) mod, 1 1/4 sway bar in the front then added big 4 wheel disc brake to stop it. Ohh and on 17 inch 275 drag radials. Also this is leaving at idle (no stalling it up for true drag style launch). I don’t want to run consistently below 11.5 because then I would have to put a 6 bar in it which I don’t want to do. If I launched the car….it would probably run faster.

I've always thought it looked rather unassuming and if I could just bring myself to make it a little quieter I could probably scare a lot more people with it than I do already.

Nice youtube vid! That pretty much sums up what my thinking is for mine. Fast but not stupid.
