Horse Power Estimate on this Set Up?
Hey all,
Thanks in advance for any comments. My 68's 289 is currently being rebuilt now. I'm putting in a 650 CFM Edelbrock, Performer intake, Twisted Wedge Aluminum heads, and Tri Y headers. I'm also planning on doing a new cam, but am not 100% sure which way to go. The engine shop is a performance shop, so I was going to let the guys just choose what cam they thought was best, but I thought I'd ask here and get your all's advice.
I'm converting the car to a Shelby Tribute and am trying to get the most horsepower out of the car, yet still keep it as a daily driver. I basically am trying to WAKE it up, but not drag race it. I was hoping for the 300-350 range.
Can anyone give me a guess as to what this would give me? Also the cam that I'm needing to add to this set up?
Thanks a ton all!! Means a lot!! Been waiting 15 years to do this to this car...

If you haven't bought the intake already Go with the Performer RPM. Much better intake.
Depending on your budget a Custom cam set to your car will give you the best bang for your buck. Several companies offer custom cams.
If you don't want to spend the money on a custom cam and go OTS comp's extreme line gets the job done.

I agree with ToyB above in regards to the RPM intake. Bit extra / tons better! Also 2nd the CompCams Extreme cams. Give them a call with all your info and what your looking to get out of it. They will steer you to what you should have and are very helpful. Ready yourself for a wait in queue when calling however.
I'd also suggest looking at the Thunder AVS Edelbrock carbs and the 500 for that 289 instead of the 650.

When I talked to the CC tech, they asked generic questions and then recommended either too big or too small a cam. The best way to decide is to simulate a dyno and see what parts do what to the combination. Believe me, time spent with dyno2000 is well spent time. This one worked for me in the past.
