I think I stumbled onto a treasure. A 72 Grande with a 302. A/C, Power Steering. It was being refurbished and the owner got a job out of the country and needs to "get rid" of it.

The interior and body have already been redone pretty nicely.
That leaves the engine. We were trying to get it to start, then we found rusty gas, the gas tank was totally corroded. So here is the question..

I realize this baby will need obvious things like, tires, battery, brakes, wiring for the tail lights, we put on a new ignition already.... and now the gas tank. I am not sure what all if anything might be wrong with the engine which has 180,000 miles.

Soooo, if I buy this car "AS IS" right now... is $2000 a good deal?

What would be reasonable to put into it to get it running?

What's a 72 Grande? Do you mean Grand Torino? Granada, Gremlin? Can you snap a pic?

$2000? is there some cash in the glove compartment? Money (cash is king) is tight now a days and they gotta get outa the country! Must be under indictment, drive a hard bargain. Was it on jack stands? no - flat spots on the axil, bump bump. Does owner know any history? Oil in the block? Auto (dry?) or manual? Can you tow or is a trailer needed?

Did you look under the carpet/trunk rust/holes. Feel in the nooks and crannies for dirt - possible flood damage.

Call a junk yard describe the car as if it's yours and ask them what they would give you, $500 if you tow it in? then that's all I'd offer, start out at $300.

With all due respect, ignore VistaBlueFrank68. He doesn't know what a Grande is, clearly doesn't know enough to justify any form of value.

For a 72 Grande, if there isn't bondo all over the thing, and the interior and exterior are in nice shape, that car is worth $2000 all day. Done nice and running might bring $6000-$7000. You can buy it, buy a 5.0 (302) out of damn near any Ford from 1968-1993, and practically swap the motor right out, have a running/driving car for ~$2500. Then figure $500 for brakes on all four corners, and $500 for new rubber, and you're into it for $3500.


I'd buy it, if there is no rust and the motor was the only issue.

ya that whole call a junkyard thing is kinda out there. call a junkyard and see what they will give you for a 2013 then sell it to me for that price. but really i paid more then that for mine as a empty shell, so i would say if ya want it thats a good price

One of my biggest Mustang regrets was letting a solid California '72 Grande go.

If it's solid and relatively complete then it's worth 2k all day long.

180k on the motor...it's probably done anyway. You'll need another one.

That notch back was the Mustang parents bought home to their kids disappointment. Now if you really want to do the world a service, fix- up a Starski and Hutch 76-77 Grand Torino.

Well Mr. 1970 from Wi. I bet they saw you coming. I bought a 1970 Mach I in showroom for $1650---------------That was in 1977 though. Go ahead buy the car for $2000 if you weren't so sure you wouldn't have asked. Now excuse me while I go back to sanding my 1978 Mustang II Ghia with a faded landau roof that got hit by a train.

And Waffles didn't you know Ghia was an Italian Motor Coach Works in Turin. I think they made Grande's, and they were very influential with Ford designers. You Notchback Snob.
