Question 69 351w heads

I have a 1969 351w eng I got at a salvage yard minus the intake, I can get a 1984 351w intake ($25), but the intake dosen't have a opening at the rear as the heads do for the coolant, is this normal? I 'd post a photo but don't know how

That is very normal. Some after market intakes are like that as well, like the Edelbrock performer RPM. There are some out there that have the rear water crossover. I got a knock-off from Ebay and between having the rear water crossover and an electric water pump, my temperature read one whole notch colder on the gauge.
