Default Transmission help

New here.
My auto trans in my 66 will not shift into 2nd from D. However I can shift from 2 back to D and it will go into 3rd.

Anyone know what the problem is? I should mention I recently had a full engine rebuild and the problem occured right after. I don't want to take it back to the machine shop as they put the engine back in and I don't want them to damage anything else.

I'm going to get a Tranny rebuild in a month or two but I wanted to know what could of caused this.

Thanx,
George

Is your vacuum hose connected and is the vacuum the same as the old engine?

I found this tranny hose disconnected. Should it be connected to this tree or the main.
I just set it in for now so it wasnt hanging.

I think the tree and where you have it are the same source. I wonder if you have other vacuum leaks based on the pic.
Is it shifting better now?

left the hose on and drove it up the street and it seem to let me stay in D.
But it now felt like the rpm's were high while driving. I don't have a gauge so not sure what exactly they were. I'm thinking of replacing the Modulater and hose all together, do you think thats the issue> worn hose or modulator?

Could be the hose is old and cracked. Some modulators have an adjustment screw. Maybe your rebuild changed your vacuum reading?

UPDATE :
All is Fixed now!!! I added a new vacuum hose and adjusted the modulator clockwise and plugged into the Main Tree and capped the unused ports. It now shifts!
Thanx for your help 69mach1377
