1965 Mustang 289/Hi-perf w/4-speed (questions)
Hi - I am new to this forum, I registered so that I could network with folks that know more about these cars than I do. It's been 25 years or more since I last messed with one of these early Mustangs. I recently stumbled onto an opportunity to trade for what appears to be a very rare Mustang. The owner is billing it as a "High-perf" 289 car with factory air and a 4-speed. The car is a basket case and doesn't have any papers, but the vin is clean. I don't have any pictures I can post at the moment but I do have some questions about this car.
The number one question is regarding the fuel filler - it's on the driver's side rear quarter panel instead of the center of the taillight panel. I have never seen anything like this before. I have not seen this car in person yet, just a few bad pictures. So can't say whether or not this is something that has been modified or if it's 'factory'.
Also, I would like to have some pointers on what to look for to help me to determine whether or not this is indeed an original High-perf 289. I know about the dual point dist deal - the current owner says it has one and he also says its a 4-barrel. The engine appears to be gold in color and it does have a posi-traction 8" rearend in it (looks like an 8", not sure if they put 9"s in these cars or not).
Lastly - if this is indeed an original hi-perf car, what do you reckon it might be worth in the real world? It appears to be a nice, rust-free Texas car - its just neglected. It would need a complete restoration but I suspect it might be worth restoring.

Welp - I reckon I have answered some of my own questions here. Looks like FoMoCo never built one with Factory air...so if this car is indeed original, it's not a Hi-perf 289 car. Not originally anyway.
Bleh.
