66 2dr coupe engine swap
Ok new to mustangs and fords so go easy...how much of a 1984 ford f150 with 351 Windsor recently rebuilt engine and manual transmission could be of use to upgrade a 1966 2dr coupe 200ci with c4 transmission. Or would I need to know vin number to know if it has any good stuff such as 9 in rear end.

the 351 will drop right in and uses standard 289/302 engine mounts and transmission...i wouldnt worry with the truck transmission the bell housing is probably massive..the 9 inch i wouldnt use either. you can find complete rears out of passenger cars to convert the rear in your car over just keep an eye on classifieds

Swapping a T5 into it with the six banger doesn't make sense, put the V8 and tranny in it together. The 351 fits fine but very tight at the shock towers and for hood clearance, Hedman makes headers.
The truck tranny is way too big and too wide ratios to use in a Mustang.

If you go with the F150, the original shifter may have been on the column. In that case the extension housing on the back of the transmission will not have the mounts for the floor shift and linkage. You can possibly replace the extension with the original but the speedometer gear on the tail shaft will be in the wrong place and not mate with the speedo cable drive gear. It is too far back on the shaft. If you upgrade to an electronic speedo you will need a GPS sender for it.

66 coupe drive train upgrade
I have found a 1984 mustang with a 351w with 69 mach 1 heads that has been cammed and rollers.. with holley double pumper and inline electric fuel pump. The t5 backing it up has been rebuilt. All have 4000 miles since the rebuild. Since you said the 351 will be tight.....does that mean that it will fit leaving the 1966 mustang stock? Can you adapt any thing else from the 1984 mustang such as disc brakes or drive shaft or rear end?
