Default FORD hood letters

I replaced my 1966 hood several years ago and bought Drake FORD hood pin letters. Never had the nerve to drill the pin holes. I recently bought Drake FORD hood adhesive letters. Anyone have experience with the adhesive type?? Do they stick well? I found a good article on letter position so I think I can install them properly. Just don't want them to fall off and take paint with them. Ideas??

Surface prep and cleaning is important for things like that. Did they come with cleaning pads?

Letters did not come with any surface prep stuff. And the surface area of the letters is actually pretty small. Do you think cleaning with a dry soft rag followed by lighter fluid on the rag is OK. If not, what do you recommend??

Ammonia based windex (paper towel ok), followed by rubbing alcohol on lintless cloth.

I installed the letters today and they look great. Prepped as you recommended and used blue painters tape to mark the precise locations. They seemed to adhere well and I didn't have to do any adjustments so they are stuck as good as possible. Took it out for a spin and they didn't blow off @ ~70mph!

Came out good. They didn't have MUSTANG letters on the trunk also? My 69 does.
