Default 67 GTA coupe

Owned car for last 30 years. Originally a 390 CUI with automatic, deluxe parchment interior, GTA S code car, AC, over head console, split bench seat with arm rest. Shifter has a cobra embedded on the handle, not sure what it came out of. The 390 was removed by one of its previous owners as was the original trans (now has a 289 CUI). We have not driven tis car over 5000 miles in the last 15 years. Car was restored 30 years ago and painted red. This was my wife's first car and she liked the red more than the original burgundy.

The car has a auto shift **** with an embedded metal cobra in it. The rest of the handle is wood. Does anyone know what this came out of. I have heard of dealer installed Cobra kits is this part of a kit.

The car has 68 style GT wheels on it as well as a spare. Could this have been put on the car as well. I have not ordered a Marti report.

Thanks

That's exactly what it looks like. My Mustang does not have a center console because of the split bench seat with arm rest.

Sorry I don't know a lot about Mustang GT's as far as options, I have read a lot, I know there was a Cobra kit on some. Do you think the shifter is part of it or did someone take it out of another car. If they did what year and model do you think it came out of.

Thanks for the help.

It was not original to the car so somebody snagged it from God knows where. You could get them from dealers so they were around.

There is no difference that I know of between the Cobra shifters and the shifters in the workaday models except that the console shifters have different provisions for mounting but are otherwise the same.

The handle style should have no effect on the shifter mechanism...just for looks.

I know it has no effect as I have used it for 30 years as I mentioned.

I was curious what it originally came out of and could of it been part of what is called a cobra kit installed by some dealers on GT's in 1967. I

I am hoping someone could give me insight on the cobra kit and what the shifter may have been on prior to me owning it, 30 years ago.

I put one like that on my car decades ago, they were available from various sources. Maybe ask the previous owner?

There were a lot of different Cobra parts available over the counter.

Valve covers, air cleaners, oil pans, monte carlo bars, intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds/headers, carburetors, shifter handles etc.
