Electrical Problem help?
Just purchased a 65 coupe. It has a 347 stroker. I put a few hundred miles on it already and has been running great. I went to take it for a ride the other day and battery was dead. I figured I left something on and drained the battery. I jumped it and it ran fine for a few minutes, then the alternator went totally up in smoke. Internals of alternator were burned so replaced with new but exact same model. Car starts and runs but voltage slowly drops and revs go higher until engine gets so hot that I'm forced to shut it off. Battery and alternator have been tested and in working order. Mechanic friend of my dad says it sounds like there is a short somewhere causing the voltage to drop like that. Any idea where a short may be common or another reason why this may be happening? I'm mechanically challenged but I will gladly take any advice and see what I can figure out. thanks

Did you replace the regulator? First place to look. Stuck regulator points (not distributor) can drain the battery or a bad coil in the regulator will eliminate charging. Unfortunately, it the regulator is bad, you may have blown the diodes in the new alternator.
