Default 1973 Mach One carburetor and air conditioning

I have a 1973 Mach One with the 351 4V Q-code engine. I bought it a few years ago, and the previous owner had installed an Edelbrock carb and, for some reason, removed the a/c system.

I want the a/c installed, and want the carb to be reliable. Right now, it has to crank a while before it will start. I want it to start and run right. I can either do a carb swap, or install a fuel injection system.

Any advice from those with experience on such matters is appreciated.

Thanks.

Are you cracking the throttle when trying to start? I usually push it about half way and hold it a 1/4 of the way down while starting when I was daily driving a carbed car

Yes, that is what i do. When the engine is cold, it fires up pretty quickly, but when warm, it has to crank a while.

I would start with carb rebuild.

I decided to order the Holley Sniper fuel injection system. Should be here in a couple of weeks.

Jeff,

Did you complete your Holley Sniper EFI installation? If so, can you share your experiences? I am planning efi later this year and I am looking at Sniper and FiTech (fuel return setup).

I have seen several happy FiTech customers who complained the Sniper had low availability and praised the FiTech was "cheaper". But, for me the FiTech display is not that appealing.

What say you?

I have no experience with the FiTech unit, but am very satisfied with the Holley Sniper.
