Default carpet underlayment/sound deadening?

Most sites have this for about $50. Has anyone ordered any of this and are you happy with it or not?

I ordered some but it is still in the box. Apparently mine is like a tarpaper/sand type of material. They also make asilver insulation stype that looks like a space blanket. I think that stuffs higher quality...

How thick is it. Does it look like it will deaden the sound?

The blanket stuff looks decent, I dont know about how well it works. Mine, I couldnt tell you, its still in the box. Vintage mustangs are noisey though, your not going to have a quiet ride anyways...

When I replaced my carpet, I also replaced the underlayment as the old underlayment was kinda ragged. It is the tar paper stuff that is about an inch or so thick. I am sure it helps a great deal in deadening the outside sound. I didn't replace the firewall stuff though. Maybe I should have.

I have a 72 stang.
I replaced my carpet and used a carpet underlayment / sound deadening from CJ Pony Parts,
and I must say my ride is much better now.
The 1st generation Mustangs are all loud.

Yeah, the underlayment under the back seat is about 1/4 or so.
