Default 1966 Mustang GT Fastback Help

Hi. I am looking at a 1966 Mustang Gt that is for sale. It is a 289 , 3 speed fastback. I used to own a 65 coupe but haven't had one in while. What should I look for before I buy this one? Is their a number on the engine that matches the VIN to insure it is the original engine? Are there GT clones out there? How do I know it is an original GT? ANything else I should look for? It has the pony interior which is in great shape. The outside is very nice. The engine needs some cleaning up but runs well. Showing 97,000 on the odometer. He is asking 18,900. This seems high to me. What do you think? Thanks for the help

Default RE: 1966 Mustang GT Fastback Help

Check for crash damage everywhere. Look under the hood to see if the inner fenders have any wrinkles. look around the door jambs and make sure the spot weld look like stock. get a magnet and look for exessive filler anywhere. look at the strut rod bushings up front also, if they are gone then the whole front end probably needs a rebuild. look for rust around the bettery too. good luck
