460 engine?
I stumbled into a 460 engine in a truck that was originally in a lincoln. I purchased the '75 F100 for a very low price and now I'm left trying to figure out something lighter to put this engine into. It was rebuilt about 5k miles ago and is in great condition.
I also have a '68 mustang that currently has a 289 in it. I'm trying to figure out what I want to do. I really plan on eventually getting a shelby cobra replica for this engine but would like to put it to use a bit sooner. Those cars are more expensive than I can really go with right now.

well i know 68's can graciously accomidate big blocks.....im not positive about 460 but i know they came stock with 390's.....i dono their relation.....
i think they had beefed up shock towers compared to small block cars though so might wanna look into that......
im worried it would make a little kit car cobra handle horribly though.....thats a hell of a lot of engine to strap to was is essentially a glorified go cart body.....but it would be awesome none the less.

If the 460 is out of a truck, you will want to re-cam it. The cam for a truck places the torque curve very low in the rpm band. The 460 will quick making good power at about 2,500 rpm. You will want to be higher then that if its in a mustang.

Look into aluminum heads to lighten it, also an aluminum intake. A 460 is pig heavy all iron. 500hp with the heads and cam is quite easily achieved on pump gas. Plus you will lose around 100lbs from the front end with aluminum.
Find out what year of Lincoln it came out of, some had the good heads on them. If its after 73, dont expect much for heads though..

yeah, my goal is to be able to afford the cobra in about 2 yrs when I'll have a LOT of other things paid off. While I wait I'll pickup various parts for this engine and probably pull it and go over everything several months before I go with a cobra.
