Default 68 sprint ??

Hi, I"m Timmy and I'm new to the mustang forum.
I've had several mustangs in the past from 66 coupes to 70 mach1.
I now have a 66 coupe that I'm restoring for my 15 year old doughter and am looking for a 69 or 70 fast back shell to restore for me.
My question is, I'm about to help a co-worker restore a "1968 sprint"
It has a Vinyl top, fog lamps, wheel opening molding, AC, C stripe 289 2v and gt wheels.
Is there any way to tell by the build tag if it is a Sptint "B"?
I can't seem to find a decoder for the build tang anywhere on the web. I had a link to one a while back but that computer is gone now.
everyone has a decoder for the door tag and vin.

Thanks, Timmy

We have decoders in the FAQ section on top. I may be dead wrong, but I thought only the I6's got the Sprint package. I am not aware of a 66 sprint with a V8.

Thanks for the reply, I'll check that out.

THe sprint is a 1968 They made an "A" and a "B" the A was v6 with hubcaps and the B was a V8 289 2v and GT wheels.

I've found lots about door tags and VINs but nothing about build/buck tags.

i dont really know what you mean by Sprint "b" package, the only 'B' code i see in my book means it was built in february of 1968. theres not an optional code or anything signifying a sprint package. plus, im pretty sure only 6cyl could be sprints. if your bucktag has a GT with the optional codes, then you have a GT, not a sprint.

I've found alot of info on the sprint or sprint GTs in 68 but nothing to prove that this care was one from Ford.

I coppied this from this page. http://www.geocities.com/mustangs68.geo/sprint.html

The 1968 Sprint Mustang
In 1968, to help bolster sales of the Mustang, Ford Motor Company offered two different "Sprint Mustang Packages". As a Sprint buyer, you had a choice of Sprint Package "A" or Sprint Package "B". Sprint Package "A" consisted of:

The option of a six-cylinder or eight-cylinder engine, included the C-shaped side striping, wheel lip moldings, full wheel covers and a pop-open gas cap.

Package "B" consisted of:

Eight-cylinder engine only, included the C-shaped side striping, wheel lip moldings, pop-open gas cap, but replaced the full wheel covers with argent painted Styled Steel wheels and added E70 Wide Oval white sidewall tires and grile-mounted fog lamps.

According to information gathered by J.R. Gillespie, other options, such as the Tutone (black striped) hood, the Interior Decor Group, and the hardtop vinyl roof could be combined with the Sprint Package. From Kevin Marti, author of Mustangs By The Numbers, there were 25,012 Sprint Package "A" Mustangs and 15,106 Sprint Package "B" Mustangs built in 1968.

AHA.....a 1968 Sprint, not a 66 sprint. Yeah, but the V8 was only a 2V. Lots of pretty stuff to boost sales, but not a screamer.

Ya' know the old C&W song "I've got a thinking problem?" Nah, whenever I hear the word Sprint regarding the classic Mustangs, my attention is immediately drawn to the earlier sprints. 1968 was a really screwed up year with only a few of the A and B models of Sprints produced. They didn't make a big impact on the sales of 1968 Mustangs though.
