my 68' mustang is purple god i hate it. i dont think they ever painted them purple....i can not tell what color it used to be, when they had it painted i bet it was a $5000 paint job. there is no where on that car telling you what color it used to be....

hey i know this is a few years after this thread was posted and i hope you see this, but i just picked up a mustang with the same color code. according to the original owner and some talking with classic ford guys, this color code was part of a western states promotion that ford put on in 68 and 69. it was called the "custom rainbow series" or something to that extent. There are very few made and were all special order (as far as i have read so far) these cars are very rare! according to pages online under 500 were build in this rainbow edition and thats all the colors total, then you have to drop into the different colors, and they get even more rare. i cant believe i stumbled across one and picked it up. i was going to build a beast project with a 460 and all that, but knowing all this new information i think i have to build i back to original and have a #match special edition. here is the 1st website i stumbled across, hope you are able to get all the info you want, i am looking for the same thing so if i find out i will post it: http://mustangattitude.com/mustang/6...ofcolors.shtml

Hi again, it has been over a year since i responded to this page. I have done a little more research and have found out a little more. i also have a 1968 721185 DSO mustang which i forgot to mention in the last comment. is anyone still following this post???? id love to bring it back up and we can brainstorm more about this mystery code!
