Well it may be a 73 Mach1 but it has a 71-72 stripe kit on it, so to make it correct you would have to change that. Though personally I think the 73 stripe kit sucks. My 73 mach1 is getting a 71-72 stripe kit, they look better. Also the Magnum 500 Rims are 70 to 72 so not correct to the car, the 73 rims were aluminium slotted style rims. But here again the Magnum 500's look better, and match the 71-72 striping, so you could easily leave that alone too !
As far as the cracking in the paint, that is suspicious to me. Why is it cracking ? Paint doen't just crack like that. is there bondo (mud) underneath where the cracks are ? Was the car hit ?
Run a magnet over the sheet metal, to see how much bondo is in it. It could be a 3 dressed up like nine ! It's amazing what paint can hide remember.
If it's a Southern car you should be relatively safe with the rust issues, but ANY of the frame or frame rails, or floorpans are rusted, stay away. That is a super xpensive fix, and it will mean the car has other problems compounding the "fix it" costs.
Don't buy sight unseen.
Be realistic and safe.
It is a good deal, but be suspicious why.

Yeah, that is easily a 15K car if going only by the pictures. There has to be a reason for the cheap price.

and for the cracks its either too much materials on the surface from past paint jobs or its rust rearing its ugly head from under the bodyfiller!

My 73 originally came in 1973 with the 71-72 stripe kit. So you are incorrect as to make it correct. There is virtually no way to tell unless you have a photo with the window sticker and them picking it up from the dealer. Ford uses the remaining parts on the assembly line until they run out then they move to the next years parts. I have had this happen on 3 of my Fords.

I am pretty sure the Magnum 500s were an option that year.

It was a ebay scam. This guy emailed me through ebay and said that if I wanted it it was mine. But then he wouldn't let me come see it before I bought it. He said he was in London on a trip. I looked closer at the ebay ad and saw that the seller put a phone number on there. So I called him and he had already sold it. And said he has never been to London. Don't know how this guy did it but he almost had me.
