Default cam and lifters

Hi, if I'm going to replace the intake manifold and carb with a 500CFM Edelbrock and Perormer manifold, how big of a job is it to replce the cam and lifters with the Edelbrock performer? How bout the Edelbrock timing chain?

Heck you are mostly there already, just remove the radiator for front clearance and follow the instructions. You might consider a matched edelbrock package all the way though including new springs, lifters, push rods, etc. Perk it right up!

Would I have to do the heads too with that package? If I keep stock (C code) heads, will I still see a big improvement in HP and torque?

You will definitely see good gains in HP and torque even without doing the heads. I agree with 69mach. get a matched cam combo. you cant go wrong. Add in a nice twin system and headers, and you will be very happy without having to spend big dollars.

I'd only caution about the push in rocker studs. They have a habit of walking out with larger cams. I know this from experience. For the price of a couple head gaskets and another $40 + studs, it's worth it to have the heads machined for screw in studs if you're increasing your lift. Heck, I'm sure a stock cam can push those things out over time.

Unless you plan on a cam with over .500 lift (and the performer package is not) you don't have to worry about the push-in style rocker studs.

thank you for that last piece....the "caution" post had me concerned. The last thing I want to do is introduce problems. the car is super reliable now.
