lower radiator hose collapse
older mustangs must have a tendency to overheat - i've read half-a-dozen posts from people, (including myself) who have the overheating problem.
question - what makes the lower hose collapse?
why do the older mustangs tend to overheat?

RE: lower radiator hose collapse
The lower hose collapses mainly from age and heat. The wire coil inside the hose starts to break down. As to why the older Mustangs tend to overheat, there are many answers. Probably the most common are clogged and corroded radiators, inneficient fans and no shrouds. In addition, many posts refer to overheating because their temp guage climbs in to the H zone. Many times this is just a faulty guage or sending unit and the engine isn't really overheating at all.

RE: lower radiator hose collapse
The lower hose can collapse if it is the older kind that hs no internal reinforcment. It collapses because it is the intake side of the water pump and so low pressure causes the collapse. Mustangs are prone to overheating (especially 65-66) becuse the radiators are too darn small. Some people put in a wider one, but a thicker core works too.
