Default Mystery harnesses

The rear seatbelts on my 68 coupe are missing, so I pulled out the rear seat to look for clues. What I discovered were two mystery wires heaped up under the seat. The harnesses are labeled "L" and "R", so I assume they are for speakers, but there are no speakers. Anyone seen these? Would the speakers have been in the trunk under the package tray? It looks like the screw holes surrounding the oval hole in the trunk have been used before, and it also looks like there are litle clips to hold the wires. I know the package tray was replaced when the interior was redone (before I owned the car). Were rear speakers a factory option? I can't imagine anyone would add them in and then take them back out. Of course, the person who swiped the seatbelts may have nabbed the speakers as well...

Adding speakers to the package tray was very popular in 60,s and 70,s. probably was put in be a po and the wires never removed

Don't remove them. You never know when you may want some speakers in the rear, and the wires are a PITA to install.
