Default Wheel and tire help-no rubbing-proper fit

I have a 66 mustang and I am upgrading the front brakes with a masterpower kit-I am thinking about torque thrust d rims and 15x7 bf goodrich radial t/a-should I go with a 225 tire or 215 tire? the guy at tire rack said either would fit-I am thinking the 215? I know it is a matter of prefference, but I just want to make sure this is all going to work before I buy the rims and tires-what type of BACKSPACING is required?
Thank Scott

4.5" on the backspacing.

+1 on the 4 1/2" backspace and go with the 225 tire...only 10mm difference. The 225 will fill your wheel well out a tad more and it will look a little wider. In either case, 215 or 225, you wont have ANY rubbing problems with that backspacing.

-1 on the 4.5....on a 7 inch wide wheel 4.25 is the back spacing to use to avoid upper a arm conflicts. Here's an interesting picture I put together once....sorry of the size seems large

Well, I have 7" wheels, and I have 4.5" backspacing. I have plenty of clearance.

I suppose I live and learn......but then again you also run 195 tires...very skinny. What brand wheels for you soaring?

I also know ttd in 15x7 come with 3.75 backspacing in off the shelf flavor which with a 215 60 15 tire rub for some people on the outer fender lip, which can be cured with a better than stock alignment.

I do know that it would be safer to run the 4.25, and that most folks have to run an 8" wheel to run with 4.5 spacing. I have Mag 500's.

No, just Mag 500's anybody can buy. I just now went out to the garage, and took off one wheel and measured the BS. Just as I remember......4.5" Take a look. Yes, I am running 195's, but I could easily go to 215's and still have plenty of room.

Sept Mustang Monthly 2006 (current issue) magazine restomod corner has an article on back spacing and tire size. They show a 15x7 with 3 3/4 to 4" on 225/60-15 with 9" tread in a chart along with other sizes and options. They suggest using the chart as a rule of thumb not as fact.
