PVC is Polyvinyl Chloride, it is used primarily for making pipe. You are wanting a PCV valve, which is Positive Crankcase Ventilation. It allows your crankcase to vent. the breather you have serves the same purpose as a PCV valve, I dont think there would be an advantage to getting a PCV valve, but maybe someone else knows of one.

well rather ehat the gasses coming out under presure the pcv valve connectc to a vaccum eliminating gasses that build up in your crank case and aslo in my 67 atleast runs alot smoother with a pcv and i don't get oil leaks i would say use one and they are cheap

Would having a normal breather be ok though? I have many other things to fix first..

In the old days, we just ran the blowby gases down the side of the engine. Later, the PCV valve was invented, and now you can run that crap back through the intake to burn it again. Use a PCV valve.
