Brake light wont turn off!!
I'm restoring a 67 mustang 390 GT 4speed. It is pretty much in the beginning phases and I am finding it is missing alot of things. 1 thing it was missing was the brake light switch. I bought a switch and after alot of sweat, I managed to install it (it would be much easier if the clutch were not there). The brake lights come on but wont shut off. I looked at the Ford service manual (Detroit Iron) and it had a picture of a sleeve that goes into the push rod from the brake booster. I installed that and I have the same problem, the brake lights will not shut off. Any thoughts??

RE: Brake light wont turn off!!
what happens if you take the switch off the pedal arm? Could the plunger just be stuck, or do you not have enough play for the switch to open when the pedal, or is the pedal not fully returning? Can you pull up on the pedal?

RE: Brake light wont turn off!!
If I take the switch off the arm, it works as it is supposed to. I can press down on the plunger and it turns on. I tried pulling up on the pedal and it still is on. It seems there is not enough play in the pushrod to brake pedal arm. Is there an adjustment for the pushrod going into the brake booster? I have to push the rod really hard to get it to go onto the arm. Thanks for the help.

You said you press down the plunger and it comes on? It should go off when compressed. Does your switch have three terminals...NO-Normally open..C-common....NC-normally close? If so hook to the common and normally closed. Then when the pedal is up the switch will be off. When you press the pedal down you will get contact.
