mds 6al

sorry what is that? i suck with acrynoms
Msd 6al is an ignition, if the car has a factory electronic ignition you will be ok, if it has points get rid of them. The nice thing about the 6al is the built in rev. limiter

The intake will be ok to get off ebay, just make sure it has not been modified in any way, I would buy the carb new, the settings will be very close out of the box. What are your future plans for the car?

gonna try to make her letter perfect. Before all this engine stuff, i am ripping out the carpet and puting in brand new red carpet. Then re-doing upholstrey and touching up the dash etc. After that will come engine stuff. I already got disc brakes being put on right now along with a engine dress up kit. I want her to be a head turner+fun to drive. Also, im wanting to do these mods to get experience with engines i wanna get down and dirty

Sounds like it will be a sharp ride. What are your performance goals? Do you want a quick fun car, or somthing more radical? Is the car going to be an everyday driver? or weekend warrior? How much drag strip action will it see? Do you want to get into doing a cam swap? A cam can really add some hp and tq numbers, but is a little more involved than doing the intake. The reason I ask all this is because some mods are best done all at once i.e. if you are going to do a intake swap, do the cam at the same time, that way you don't have to take the engine apart twice. Also having a plan will save money and down time.

weekend warrior prolly.. will be drivin my dads car most the time. I dont know about the Cam i think there is a limit on what my parents will allow me to do. I dont want a slow car i want her to be aggressive but nothing i cant handle. Im not sure on hp numbers possibly close to 300 maybe? how hard is that to obtain?

300 hp will be alittle hard to come by without doing the cam but it is possible, you will need the mods we talked about plus headers, free flowing exhuast, 1.6 roller rockers, and recurving the distributor, this will probably give you about 280ish hp, this is all guess work though as we don't what heads you are running and what the compression ratio of the engine is. I am going on the assumption that the engine is 100% bone stock, if you know of anything that has been done such as a recent rebuild let me know.

If you are looking for a horsepower up grade the biggest gain you get is from compression/cam and heads. Those will help from idle up. Headers and going to a 4 barrel carb will help from about 4,000 rpm on. I had a friend years ago that put a 302 in a 6cylinder Maverick. He couldn't afford to do everything at once and the engine neede a rebuild so he went with 11:1 compression and a mild cam from Competition. He did install hearders and dual exhaust because he needed an exhaust system anyway. The point is that even with the 2 barrel carb he had a lot of power up until around 4,500 rpm. It would put you back in the seat when he romped it. We thought it was funny because he could say it was just a 2 barrel and then out run a lot of people who were supposed to have "muscle cars".

alright.. how are is a CAM install? and how much HP would i get with header/intake/4bbl carb? I just kinda wanna be pushed back in my seat you kno? i dont need a 13 second car or anything i just figured 280-300hp wouldnt be to hard to obtain. I believe the engine is bone stock.
