A/C Compressor
my ac compressor pulley went and i was wondering if i could get a more modern compressor off of a newer ford that would be compatible with r-134 and i was wondering if i could pull this compressor from a junkyard and then just order the new stuff i need like a new evap and coils cause i need a/c bad by next summer so it will be a good winter project

RE: A/C Compressor
The compressor clutch bearing is only about $30.00. Takes a special puller to remove the assembly then the bearing comes off. Not a terribly dificult job. Otherwise, if you are looking to go R134a, you can get a retrofit kit from any of the A/C kit Mfgs.

where can you get that cause i have searched for it cause i don't need a whole new pulley and it blows really cold already but i fig i could make it up to date since i will be working on it

Napa would be my choice. They have good quality (read not made in China) bearings. It is called the "Compressor clutch bearing". Should be a double sealed roller bearing. They will need to know what kind of a compressor it is, so if your car is drivable, I'd suggest you drive it over. If not take two or three pictures along with the tag off the compressor.
With an R12 system, as long as it blows cold, I'd leave it alone. Run it once in a while even in the winter just to keep everything sealed up.
Your public library should have a good set of Mitchell or Chilton professional series manuals in the reference section. All the information on how to do this job is in those books.
Good luck,
Scott

Find another Napa, and/or contact corporate and tell them what happened. Someone needs to be trained or replaced. [:@]

What I didn't see was the puller. But I didn't look very hard. Also, that may or may not be the bearing you need. I don't know what kind of compressor you have. I simply put in 1965 Ford Mustang and looked up Compressor clutch bearing.
Good luck,
Scott

The link comes up blank for whatever reason. Go to "Change vehicle, and put in your car info. Then under search put compressor. This will show you part numbers for what they have. Just the bearing, the entire clutch assembly or the whole freakin' compressor.
