Alternator Questions
okay, so im interested in two of these alternators but one has an internal regulator and one has an external regulator....what does that even mean? what does my current one have? ( i assume it stock...sure looks like it at least)
the reason i ask is because everytime i drive the car and stop it the battery is so dead it dosent have enough power to crank the engine to start it again........its a brand new batt too...actually...two brand new ones so far...so its something to do with the charging.

RE: Alternator Questions
I just had the same problem with my car. It happend over the weekend while i was at a 5 day car show. I had a one wire alternator which has a regualtor inside of it, thats what you would call a internal regulator. A stock style doenst have a regualtor built into it so it relies on the voltage regulator. The problem i had with my one wire alt. was that the main power suply stud on the back of the alt. hit the engine block and shorted out. I was very lucky it didnt destroy my entire elctrical system. If i were you i would go with a stock style alt. becaseu you can use the stock harness, and you dont have to rev your engine at start up. With the one wire alt. you must rev your engine in order for it to start charging. So after the 1 wire alt. fried i bouhgt a stock style one and now it works perfect! hope this helped.

RE: Alternator Questions
that one that you are looking at from summit was the same one that i got and it fried. The studs on the back of the alt. are too long and they can touch the block and do some damage to your electrical system. I bought my brand new alt. form PEP BOYS for 35 bucks.

RE: Alternator Questions
Hello, I actually called PEP BOYS before i went there to make sure they even carried them. Sure enough they did which was suprising, it is 35 bucks with the core charge when you bring your old one back. If you dont have your old one it is 45 bucks. I checked the website and cant find them listed. If i were you i would give them a call and see if they have it first. The one near me carries them.

RE: Alternator Questions
which might fit right initially but really isnt the look i want....or even the amount of power i will likely need....i could go to napa and get a remaufactured one but that sorta defeats the purpose i guess....
why does everyone talk about single wire if they arent good?
