In a race who would win: 1965 mustang 289 (2 or 4 bbl) or 2005+ mustang v6 (both auto or both manual 5 speeds) I've always kinda wondered, never done it.
from a stop to about 100 mph...uh what else you want? no nitrous....pretty much stock (both cars) maybe a CAI on the new one and a new intake on the old. that help?
If they were both completely stock, the newer V6 produces more HP than the 2V, 289 but less than the 4V, 289 (289, 2V- 200 hp; 289, 4V-225hp; '05, V6-210 hp). However, I believe the V6 has better gearing for acceleration whether it be the auto or the stick because the transmission in either case has more gears (5 versus 4)allowing closer ratios. Whether this gearing advantage would be enough to overcome the 7% power advantage the 4V, 289 has over the V6, I don't know. I guess it depends on the length of the straight line race. Now if you went with a larger freer flowng exhaust, four barrel carb, and an intake to match, the 289 would now produce much higher torque and HP numbers, making it no contest in a straight line race of 1/4 mile or more. I'm sure others will have different opinions.
