Default Anyone have Magnaflow 3" system on a '65-66?

Just wondering is everything fits right or will I have problems after the mufflers?

you will have very little low end torque, 3 inch pipes are best above 400hp...

My car will eventually have more than that. Right now, I'm concerned about fitment.

I think if you did run into any problems it would be with the first bend right out of the muffler that goes up and over the rear end. With a 3" o.d. that might butt up against the axle housing. I don't think you will have any clearances up and over the top of the rear end though (I have 2 1/2" dr. gas's and there is tons of clearance).

Well, Magnaflow claims that #15817 (3" system) fits the 65-66 Mustang. I guess I will see. If I run into clearance issues, I could reduce to 2.5" after the muffler. I've gotten several expert opinions already that reducing after the mufflers is far better than restricting anywhere else and better than running all 2.5".

^ Really? I ran my reduction after my x....I have 3" pipe about 18" beyond the header collector that meets up with an x-pipe, and then it exits to the 2 1/2" reduction.

Yeah. I read it on another site. Also I also called the owner of a local performance shop today and they told me the same thing. He talked technically about hot exhaust gas, pressure, and cooling which I couln't really follow and said after the muffler is where you want the restriction if you really need one.

i have always thought that was odd about back pressure makes torque cause i mean doesn't it take more energy to breath through a straw than a paper towell tube i have 3in pipe on my 460 and the exhaust man told me oh you want 2.5 in for torque i said give me 3 in and i can roast my tires or floor it at about 35 and get a tiny roast more so i say go 3in

Me too. I could never understand the common belief that restriction increases torque. You never see drag cars restricting their exhaust because they desire more lower end torque.
