But if you guys say that the 429cj wasn't introduce till 71 how can that be original or is he mistaken? Is it a 428 that he has in there?

The 385 series big block (429/460) will not fit into 65-70 Mustangs without modifications to the shock towers. It's just too big physically.

BTW, the 335 series is the Cleveland/Modified series of small-blocks.

There was a company years ago that used to make a kit for just that swap. There was a write up about the company in Super Ford Magazine(maybe it was Hot Rod...). It consisted of motor mounts and headers. I can't remember their name, I have no idea if they are still around. It will be tight but no alterations to the shock towers were required.

I don't know what you mean. The 429CJ and SCJ engine was available in the mustang for only one year, 1971. That is what that car is, where in this does the confusion lie???

just because it was intruduced to the Mustang in 1971 does not mean that it wasn't in other cars in 1970...

Check out www.critesrestoration.com. They have motor mounts, headers, etc. for swapping various big blocks into lots of old Fords and Mercs. They are not the only company out there that makes this stuff, but they seem to have a very good reputation.

I've been casually researching this 460 into a 68 cougar thing. I got the impression that it is doable but not easy, without notching the shock towers. All of the front end dimensions are the same between the 68 cougar and mustang... so that much sounds like the same problem. Notching the shock towers does not really faze me, but I am now starting to think about dropping the 351 dubya from the mustang into the cougar and getting a 514 or larger for the rustang.

I thought a 351 was the largest common block that will fit in a 68? Mine is tight!
