Clutch Linkage Conversion

Clutch Linkage Conversion
I just about have the engine out of my 68, and I think it is time to replace the original clutch linkage with something a little more manageable. I have headers and power steering on my care, so every time I have to mess around in this area, it turns into a battle.
Does anybody have any advice on how to convert over to a cable or hydraulic clutch? Where is a good place to get a conversion kit?
Thanks

RE: Clutch Linkage Conversion
This would be a good place to look. They specialize in 5 and 6 speed swaps, but have pieces for all kinds of conversions:

RE: Clutch Linkage Conversion
If you have a 5-speed in there, then no problem, as many vendors sell cable and hydraulic conversions.
If you have the original 4-speed, which I'm going to assume, then most of the cable and hydraulic conversion kits will not work. In order for them to work, you would have to make several modifications (i.e. welding required) to your bellhousing. Be careful when you read/research conversion kits, as many of the sites just assume you have a 5-speed.
I too hate that darn clutch linkage. [:@]

There is...and it's a royal pain to set up. I didn't buy one, but a friend of mine with a '73 did. Look around and you should find it.

there really needs to be a hydraulic clutch kit for a toploader... I would buy that in a second.

Thanks guys. I have a 4 speed, but I do not think it is the original setup. I think mine came with a 3 speed.
What is the difference in setup between a 5 speed and a 4 speed?

RE: Clutch Linkage Conversion
There's quite a bit of difference between the 4 and 5 speed. The info should be inthe FAQ's. The toploader 3-sp and toploader 4-sp differ only in the tranny mount and speedo cable location.
